About the role

We are currently looking for driven Plant Operators/Excavator Operators to join our dedicated team in Cairns. We encourage Indigenous, Torres Strait Islander Peoples and female candidates to apply. The successful candidate/s will operate a range of earth-moving plant to assist in civil construction works.

At HEH Civil, you will be working in a small, cohesive team with other experienced members of our civil construction teams. Regular overtime is available when and if required. Ongoing training and development are on offer for the right candidate.

What you will need to be considered:

  • Preparing and positioning the plant for operation
  • Selecting, fitting, and removing attachments such as buckets, winches, loading scoops, shovel blades, and rock-breaking hammers
  • Operating controls to excavate, break, drill, level, compact, gouge out, move, load, and spread earth, rock, rubble, soil, and other materials
  • Monitoring the operation of plant and adjusting controls to regulate pressure, speed, and flow of operation, and ensuring the safety of other workers
  • Raising, lowering, and manipulating attachments using manual and hydraulic controls
  • Working from drawings, markers, and verbal instructions
  • Servicing, lubricating, cleaning, and refueling plant and performing minor adjustments and repairs
  • To be able to work under limited supervision either individually or in a team environment
  • To understand and be able to comply with the HEH policies, procedures, and standards
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Leading Hand and Supervisor
  • Completion of Daily Plant Prestart Checklists
  • Report any damage to plant or incidents to the Site Supervisor
  • To be able to multi-task and assist with other roles when required.
  • To understand that work may be required at more than one site, and travel will be required
  • Other duties as requested by the Site Supervisor

Applicants will be required to have all mandatory tickets to work on government infrastructure sites and at least 2 years experience operating heavy machinery. These can include:

  • Queensland Drivers Licence
  • Construction Induction (Blue / White Card: CPCCOHS1001A – or equivalent) – Employment prerequisite
  • Plant License or competency/log book for the relevant plant
  • Traffic Controller ticket and Traffic Work with a Stop/Slow Batt (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Advanced First Aid and CPR
