Investing in our people – Tia Batterham’s HEH Civil Story
When we hire people, we know that the most important thing is finding the right person for the job and sometimes that means hiring someone we know will be a great addition to the team and giving them development opportunities to grow into the role.
That’s exactly what happened with Tia Batterham.
In 2020, Tia began working with HEH Civil as a subcontractor in a traffic controller role. Over the following couple of years, we got to know her well and enjoyed having her as part of the team. When a role for a WHS and Environmental Quality Coordinator became available, we thought Tia would be an ideal candidate and invited her to apply for the role despite the fact that she didn’t have the necessary qualification. She was up for the challenge and was excited about working directly for HEH Civil and she got the job!
In order to help Tia feel more confident in her role and to ensure she had all the necessary skills and qualifications, we enrolled her in Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety with Total Management and Training. This was a 5-day intensive course and we were able to secure funding for her training through Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ).
Tia thoroughly enjoyed the course and the interactive classroom dynamic. The trainer, Paul, knew how to make the content interesting, add humour where appropriate, and answer all her questions quickly and effectively.
Here’s what Tia had to say about working at HEH Civil:
“They are good guys, and the business has a real family feel to it. The team is supportive and lovesto foster my personal progression. It’s a great place to work.”
Tia is now well-placed to utilise her WHS skills and knowledge in her role and we are proud to have her as part of the HEH Civil team.
