HEH CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS
Our Projects
Marine Infrastructure
Cairns Marine Precinct
Key Capabilities: Marine infrastructure
Location: Portsmith, Far North Queensland
Client: SMC Marine & Ports North
Duration: 36 weeks (2022 – 2023)
About the project:
This project demonstrated HEH Civil’s ability to successfully manage multiple high-risk activities in a live environment including management of contaminated materials, existing service location/protection, marine works, heavy duty pavements, tidal conditions and live seaport operations. The HEH Civil onsite team successfully maintained the highest safety, environmental and quality standards in this demanding work environment.
Project Scope
- Development of a Contaminated Land Management Plan
- Development of Public Utility Plant (PUP) Management Plan
- Demolition of existing infrastructure
- Revetment sea wall
- Stormwater/concrete structures
- Electrical services
- Dewatering activities
- Heavy-duty pavement construction
- Asphalt pavement construction
- Subgrade improvements/treatments
- Compilation of As Constructed data
Challenges
- Working within live seaport operations. Scope of works involved direct interaction with Port operators requiring daily stakeholder consultation and detailed planning to avoid any potential disruption to Port operations.
- Management of contaminated material (PFAS/hydrocarbons/asbestos) required strict testing regimes, onsite storage procedures and transportation to an off-site facility.
- Due to the history of the wharf areas, documentation of existing services was incomplete. Extensive non-destructive excavations for identification and verification of unmarked/unknown services were required and formed a critical stage in the verification of design.
- All works were affected by tidal movements and required the development and management of a detailed logistics plan to ensure the project program milestones were met.
