Our Projects

Ravenshoe Water Supply Upgrade, Stage 2 WQIP

Location: Ravenshoe, North Queensland
Client: Tablelands Regional Council
Duration: June 2023 – June 2025
Value: $15.1m

About the Project:

The project involved constructing 13 km of new watermain for Ravenshoe, comprising 9.6 km of PN35 DICL pipe and 3.5 km of PN16 pipe. This pipeline connects Millstream residents to the Ravenshoe water supply, reducing boil-water notices and improving water quality. HEH worked with Tablelands Regional Council and local residents to deliver this significant project. HEH Civil also designed and constructed Ravenshoe’s new fully autonomous water treatment plant.

Project Highlights

  • Design and Construct Works
  • Underbores underneath environmentally significant creeks
  • Cut-in new pipework to existing network
  • Update SCADA interface with new valving
  • Modification of existing infrastructure
  • Ensure design of new water treatment plant meets all TRC’s design criteria and is fit for purpose
  • Integration of treatment plant into existing SCADA network
  • High and standard pressure valve assemblies

Key Challenges and Solutions

  • Rock excavation in difficult, wet-season terrain slowed productivity; strong program management minimised delays.
  • Coordinated design process to meet all stakeholder expectations.
  • Managed multiple subcontractors to deliver on time and under budget.
  • Maintained strong community engagement during 13km watermain construction along a busy road.
  • Handled objections from residents opposed to the project and local development.
  • Implemented continuous traffic management on a narrow single carriageway adjacent to works.
  • Planned and progressed works through a long wet season with minimal program impact.

Achievements

  • This project strengthens HEH Civil’s water infrastructure capabilities and highlights our expertise in design, construction, and mechanical and electrical engineering. Delivered in partnership with Tablelands Regional Council, it’s a collaborative success for the local community.

Community Outcomes

  • HEH Civil proactively managed stakeholders to align expectations and meet project objectives, receiving positive community feedback upon completion.
